"Spring is the season of change in the Lakes Region.
"Frost heaves make a drive down a country road a rollercoaster adventure. 'Mud season' slows down your gardening plans. You wonder if that pile of snow by the side of the road will ever disappear.
"Then the first warm day comes. Coats are replaced by sweaters, jackets and shirtsleeves. (One optimist over there is wearing shorts.) Folks are standing outside their pickup trucks, talking about summer plans. Crocuses tentatively poke their heads out of the dark soil. 'Ice-out' arrives, when all the ports of the cruise ship Mount Washington are clear and open for docking. A bud appears on a tree. Small boats can be seen rocking gently at their moorings. Bikers start coming to town.
"'Anticipation' season is in full swing. It’s time to enjoy our haven, our home, our garden, culture and history. This is the Lakes Region, the place we call home, whether it’s for the whole year, a few weeks or just a few days."
