Christina Courtin's first album; a seoond
one is due out in March.
Do you know who this is?
Christina Courtin was raised in Buffalo, NY and studied violin at the famous Julliard School in New York City. She's accomplished enough to play with the famous violinist Yo-Yo Ma.
She's also apparently visited the Lakes Region - at least Laconia - and, to put it mildly, was apparently not too impressed.
On her 2009 self-titled album, Coutrin recorded a song named "Laconia". (You can listen to it here.)
"Oh, the darkness that you bring," she sings to the city. "It's not the kind of place to raise a family." The refrain is: "How did I end up here, and how do I get back?"
What do you think about that?
Perhaps it's a matter of age, but the rock song sound somewhat familiar. (All rock songs do after a while, don't they?) It's reminiscent of "sixties" songs some musicians played, ones that seemed to equate inharmonic sound as "cutting edge" modern art.
It wasn't.
And it isn't.
To be fair, it's the only song we heard. And Courtin is well liked by some in the New York art scene who praise her merging classical elements with her rock-style orientation.
Courtin's voice "feels uniquely otherworldly, as if it couldn't possible be entirely human born," wrote the New York Times.
We tend to agree.
Courtin has a new album coming out in March but you can listen to "Laconia" and the rest of the first album at the link above.
