"The Muskrats will have 3 new opponents this summer as the NECBL has expanded. Welcome to the league to the Plymouth (MA) Pilgrims, Saratoga (NY) Brigade and the Ocean State (RI) Waves. Read more on the New England College Baseball League website."
The Muscrats' college-player league is considered one of the best "developmental" groups in the country and alumni like Stephen Strasburg of the Washington Nationals are all over the Major Leagues. Several Red Sox prospects will be in the Lakes Region this summer.

ESPN Classic has been showing "King of Kong: For a Fistful of Quarters" lately- if you haven't seen it, it's been called one of the best sports documentaries of all time... And much of it was filmed at our own Funspot in Weirs Beach.

Ross Shor Lynch (Ross Lynch), born on December 29, 1995 is an American teen actor, singer, instrumentalist, and dancer. He is best known for portraying Austin Moon on the Disney Channel television series Austin & Ally, and performs in his family band called R5 with his brothers Riker Lynch, Rocky Lynch, sister Rydel Lynch and the family's best friend, Ellington Ratliff. Guess what guys! Today it's his 17th birthday! So we wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and we also wish that you will have, and you are having the best day of your life!

Many friends and co-workers tweeted him, and we believe that the best tweet that he may got today was from Austin&Ally's Dez, Callum Worthy who wrote: "Happy Birthday @rossR5! I am so lucky to be working with you! You are insanely talented bro! I mean your golden locks are out of this world!"

Geekly Chic: Music: New Single "Hola at the DJ" by Coco Jones

Our talented actor and singer, Coco Jones, has finally made a new single called "Hola at the DJ". It's really cool, and the official music video, is awesome. You can watch on Youtube:

Geekly Chic: Celebrity News: Zendaya's 1st Official Dance Video!

Finally Z-swaggers! Zendaya has finally made her first official dance video! She published the video in her Youtube Channel on December 26th, writing at the description box: " I got together with my favorite choreographer (Miss Kim Sims-Battiste) and my favorite dancers, and we put together a little something for you guys!! Hope you like it...please tweet the link and spread the word!! "

Geekly Chic: Celebrity News: Tyra Banks's #SmizeCap .. Boys Only!

So Geekly Chics, our favorite model, Tyra Banks, made a friendly competition through Instagram. The competition had many competitors but only one could win the Smize Cap. The winners have already be told. The boys that would win, will make an ANTM audition with Tyra. But Tyra wanted to make things more mysterious so she posted a photo that was saying that the winners are found but they will be posted the other day. Weather Patterns

It is time.
The first snowfalls have skirted through the Lakes Region and although there have been only a few morning frosts worthy of car window scraping, it's clear that the season has altered, that the annual lifestyle switch has begun.
Time to head out to the outdoor shed, to "retiree" the autumn rake in an annual ritual - and time to reactivating the snow shovel.

That's when you notice... Sitting in a corner are the accoutrements of "summer": folded-up beach chairs, an oversized colorful dusty umbrella, a plastic baseball bat and whiffle ball.
Looking peculiarly isolated, they call back to you: "Remember when we went to the lake together? What about that picnic in the park by the shore?"

But it's now impossible now to comprehend exactly what these objects are, or what they're used for.

"Sorry, but we have no time for the beach now. Got to get sand in the car trunk. Have to find warm winter gloves and waterproof the kids' boots.

What exactly are those things, anyway?

Drive around the Lakes Region at night this time of year for another foreign experience.

Once, homeowners simply put up small color lights to show their Christmas sprit.

Now giant inflated figures sit on snow-specked yards, broadcasting the "joyous" season.

Overblown Santas. Too-puffy Teddy Bears. Exorbitant reindeer... All with an eerie white light shining from within.

Last night, on a Laconia street corner, some inflatable friends some how escaped their moorings and were wishing folks Season's Greetings from a sidewalk, halfway down the block from their original residence.

But if you drive by the next morning, it's an even scarier scene.

Here lies the plastic puddle of vinyl "skin" of your holiday heroes - deflated, depreciated, demolished.

(Let's hope the kids never stumble upon this gruesome scene and piece together all the evidence.)

Geekly Chic: Celebrity News: Madonna Threatens Fans To Stop Smoking Or She Would Cancel The Concert

"There are people smoking right now," Madonna said angrily on her show in Santiago, as she noticed fans lighting up in her vicinity. "If you're gonna smoke cigarettes, I'm not doing a show. You don't care about me, I don't care about you. All right?". And as her fans just continued puffing on their cigarettes she added: "Are we going to play that game? I'm not kidding. I can't sing if you smoke, entiendes?". As someone in the crowd screamed "We love you" - Madonna answered: "If you love me, then don't smoke. No smoking! You're looking right at me while you're smoking cigarettes, like I'm a stupid f---ing idiot."

That's really confusing since she actually smokes a cigarette herself for her "Girl Gone Wild" video that was released earlier this year! But this isn't the first time that Madonna's in trouble with fans on her MDNA Tour! Earlier this year, in Miami, she was booed by angry fans who'd been waiting for her in over 3 hours to show up. We're not sure what to think of this!

Lakes Region Live Nativity

A living Nativity scene brings Xmas to life.

At the Lakes Region Vineyard Church today will give parents the opportunity show children the true story of Christmas.
This will be a “living” scene, with real animals and people playing the original characters in the story. There will be refreshments for all, gifts for the children and a short narrated retelling of the Christmas Story from the Bible.
This special one-day Living Nativity event will take place from 4 to 6 p.m., in front of the church’s building on Mechanic Street in Lakeport - which is located behind the US Post Office and Fratello’s Ristorante Italiano off Union Avenue, Laconia. (The Christmas story retelling will begin at 4:30 p.m.)
St. Francis of Assisi is believed to be the first person to create a living nativity in 1224. He did it to help the people of his time understand the meaning of Jesus’ birth.

"How did I end up here, and how do I get back?"

Christina Courtin's first album; a seoond

one is due out in March.

Do you know who this is?

Christina Courtin was raised in Buffalo, NY and studied violin at the famous Julliard School in New York City. She's accomplished enough to play with the famous violinist Yo-Yo Ma.

She's also apparently visited the Lakes Region - at least Laconia - and, to put it mildly, was apparently not too impressed.

On her 2009 self-titled album, Coutrin recorded a song named "Laconia". (You can listen to it here.)

"Oh, the darkness that you bring," she sings to the city. "It's not the kind of place to raise a family." The refrain is: "How did I end up here, and how do I get back?"

What do you think about that?

Perhaps it's a matter of age, but the rock song sound somewhat familiar. (All rock songs do after a while, don't they?) It's reminiscent of "sixties" songs some musicians played, ones that seemed to equate inharmonic sound as "cutting edge" modern art.

It wasn't.

And it isn't.

To be fair, it's the only song we heard. And Courtin is well liked by some in the New York art scene who praise her merging classical elements with her rock-style orientation.

Courtin's voice "feels uniquely otherworldly, as if it couldn't possible be entirely human born," wrote the New York Times.

We tend to agree.

Courtin has a new album coming out in March but you can listen to "Laconia" and the rest of the first album at the link above.

Let's show her there's more to life here than the occasional "grey skies" she sings about in "Laconia."

Congratulations to Kelly Clarkson, for getting engaged to her beloved! We wish you all the best, and hope that love will last for ever!

Kelly Clarkson is engaged, and it took mere hours after the announcement for the star to reveal her new engagement ring.

The 30-year-old singer broke the big news on Saturday night, and by Sunday morning had tweeted a picture of the mammoth sparkler that now sits on her wedding finger. Alongside the photo, Clarkson wrote:

“Everyone has been asking about my engagement ring, so here it is It’s a yellow canary diamond with diamonds around it and Brandon designed it with Jonathan Arndt! They did an amazing job! I can’t wait to make Brandon’s ring with Jonathon as well!”

On Saturday, Clarkson had told her 2.4 million Twitter followers:

“I’M ENGAGED!!!!! I wanted y’all to know!! Happiest night of my life last night! I am so lucky and am with the greatest man ever:)”

That man is Brandon Blackstock, the son of Clarkson’s talent manager. Blackstock dropped to one knee to propose on Friday night.

Clarkson and Blackstock began dating in February 2012. Speaking to The Daily Mail in May 2012, Clarkson discussed how she and Blackstock got together:

“Brandon is my manager’s son. I’ve known him for six years but he was married. Then, suddenly, there he was at the Super Bowl and he was single.”

And now, just ten short months later, Blackstock and Kelly Clarkson are engaged.

Britain's Prince William and his wife Catherine are expecting their first child, twenty months after their marriage, as officially announced the palace. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are pleased to announce that the Duchess is expecting a baby. The Queen, the Duke of Edinvourgou, Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news, "says the official announcement of the palace.
According to her statement, Katherine, who married Prince William, the second in succession to the British throne, in April 2012, was hospitalized in London as suffering from morning sickness, while adding that the pregnancy is at an early stage. British Prime Minister David Cameron wrote in his account on Twitter: "I'm thrilled with the news. They are going to be wonderful parents."

We are sure that they are going to be great parents, and the child will be full of love!

It's a performance written by Judy Buswell and based on the journals of a Victorian-era relative. Judy fell in love with the story, the journal's author and the life for a housewife in the Victorian age. Judy wrote the performance; Faith Rupert is directing and Tamara McGonagle is playing the lead role.

There are countless charming spots around the Lakes Region but for many, Squam is the ultimate: it's not hard to understand... in virtually every season, the pristine area offers myriad breath-taking views.

Our favorite image from this years' first-ever SLA

This year, the Squam Lakes Association asked its supporters to submit their favorite "homemade" images in a photography contest. The results were, predictably, wonderful.
